Who Is An Appropriate Fit for a Partial Hospitalization Program?

Those that are looking for mental health treatment but are unable to commit to inpatient treatment may be the best candidate for a Partial Hospitalization Program. This setting allows clients to receive support and services at a high level of care while still being able to go to a structured supportive housing environment or their own homes during the evening. Generally, our Tampa Partial Hospitalization Program is a good fit for clients who:

  • Are Transitioning from a Higher Level of Care: Those who have recently completed inpatient or residential treatment utilize PHP as a step-down program for continued recovery as they acclimate back to life.
  • Don’t Need 24/7 Care: PHP is not an ideal fit for those that are experiencing severe symptoms or round-the-clock care, but is most appropriate for those that still require more structure than intensive outpatient or outpatient services.
  • Need Daily Clinical Support: Our Partial Hospitalization Program runs six days a week for up to six hours per day. Before starting intensive outpatient programming or outpatient treatment, some individuals do require additional stabilization. A week or two weeks of PHP can provide the time to safely step down into outpatient.
  • Those With Limited Support At Home: Individuals who lack the support and structure at home would benefit from the daily programming that PHP offers.
  • Those Who Have Experienced a Recent Life Crisis: Individuals who have recently experienced a life crisis or transition that has impacted their mental health may be an appropriate fit for PHP.

Our Partial Hospitalization Program Therapies:

We offer a multitude of evidence-based therapies and supportive services to help our clients create the best chances of mental health recovery, including:

  • Psychiatric Medication Management: We provide psychiatry and personalized medication management ensuring the medications effectively manage symptoms and support overall mental health.
  • EMDR Therapy (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing): EMDR is a psychotherapy technique used primarily to treat trauma and PTSD. Sessions involve clients to recall distressing experiences while receiving bilateral sensory input, such as side-to-side eye movements or hand tapping. EMDR Therapy has also been effective in helping with anxietydepression, and dual diagnosis disorders.
  • Brainspotting TherapyBrainspotting is an alternate form of trauma therapy that utilizes the clients visual field to help them process trauma. By holding the gaze in a specific spot, research indicates deep-seated emotional trauma can be processed.
  • Holistic Therapy: Our holistic therapy approach integrates traditional mental health treatments and incorporates mind, body, and spirit to help clients achieve optimal wellness.
  • Medication-Assisted Treatment: MAT combines the use of medication with counseling and behavioral therapies to treat substance use disorders.
  • Cognitive Behavioral Therapy: CBT is an evidence-based therapy that focuses on identifying and changing negative and distorted thinking patterns, behaviors, and emotional responses. CBT is utilized in group therapy as well as one-on-one therapy.
  • Dialectical Behavioral Therapy: DBT helps clients develop healthy ways to cope with stress, regulate their emotions, and improve their relationships with others. It was initially developed to treat borderline personality disorder but is now used for various mental health conditions.
  • Life Skills: Life skills training involves teaching essential skills necessary for living a healthy, fulfilling life. This can include time management, financial management, stress management, interpersonal skills, and decision-making.

What is the Difference Between PHP, IOP and OP?

Partial hospitalization programs in Tampa allow patients to go home at the end of the day, but these days often include multiple treatment or therapeutic sessions. Generally, PHPs require patients to report for treatment five days per week for approximately three to eight hours each day. While less restrictive than residential treatment, it still requires a considerable time commitment.

Intensive Outpatient (IOP) programs, meanwhile, require patients to attend multiple hours of treatment for multiple days per week. IOP patients come in for treatment three to six days per week for roughly three to six hours each day.

Standard outpatient (OP) programs, meanwhile, require clients to attend treatment just one to three days per week for one to three hours per day.

Does Insurance Cover Partial Hospitalization Programming?

Chances are good that at least a portion of your PHP treatment is covered by insurance. However, there are certain requirements that you and your provider must fulfill. For instance, prior authorization from your primary care physician may be needed before the treatment can be approved by your insurer.

Since 2014, the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act (ACA) has required that treatment of substance use disorders and alcohol use disorders be considered essential health care. Healthcare.gov, the health insurance exchange website operated by the Federal government, states that all health insurance policies must cover not just addiction treatment, but also counseling, psychotherapy, and other behavioral treatments, as well as inpatient services around mental health.

Still, many insurance policies include strict guidelines related to certain expenses like copays, deductibles, and other out-of-pocket expenses. And while they are prohibited from placing caps on addiction treatment coverage, many plans limit the number of therapy sessions covered in a certain period.
